ETDC Digital Media built a new website for the South Wales Premier Cricket League (SWPCL), giving the top tier of recreational cricket in South Wales a modern digital home to match its standing.
Project Snapshot
- Client: South Wales Premier Cricket League
- Sector: Cricket: ECB Premier League, administered by Cricket Wales
- Service: Website design, development and copywriting
The Challenge
The SWPCL sits at the top of club cricket in South Wales, but very little of its story existed online. Formed in its current shape in 2009/10, when the leading clubs of two regional competitions came together, the league had history, rivalries and a title sponsor, yet little written material to build a website from.
League websites also carry a heavy functional load. Clubs, players and officials need fixtures, results, tables and documents, while supporters and sponsors need a reason to engage.
Our Approach
We brought the same league-website thinking developed through our work with the Home Counties Premier Cricket League.
- Research the story. With limited source material, we researched the league’s history ourselves: how the leading clubs of the South East Wales League (now the Glamorgan & Monmouthshire Cricket League) and the South Wales Cricket Association came together, its ECB Premier League status, and St Fagans as its most successful club.
- Write copy that sells the standard. The About section positions the SWPCL as the highest level of amateur cricket in the region, not just an administrative body.
- Design for match-day use. A clean, card-led layout built around the content people come for: fixtures, results, news and partners.
- Make room for partners. Space for the league’s sponsors, including its title sponsor, is part of the page structure.
What We Delivered
- New league website design and build
- Researched and written About Us copy covering the league’s history and standing
- Page structure for fixtures, results, news and partners
- Mobile-first layout for players and supporters checking in on matchdays
The Result
The SWPCL now presents itself online as what it is: the premier club competition in South Wales. The league has a clear, modern website that tells its story to new audiences and gives its sponsor a credible platform.
Key Takeaway
Leagues are brands too. Pairing a modern build with researched, story-led copy lets a premier league show clubs, players and sponsors the standard it represents.
